Choice of language

Hi,
I was introduced to Latte (http://www.zanshin.com/latte/) by a friend and overall it looks like a really good idea. However, I noticed that Latte contains it's own proprietary mini-language.
I find that mini-languages often have a lot of dead ends (as compared to general languages (for example, lack of regexes as described on the Latte Plans page)) and require an inordinate amount of development, testing, documentation, learning, etc. to bring them up to speed with general languages.
These things are compounded when considering the number of languages that a web-developer may encounter (Latte, JavaScript, PHP, VBScript, Perl, etc.)
Given the success, maturity, functionality and stability of the Python programming language, as well as the ease of embedding and extending it, has anyone in the Latte community considered creating a Python version of Latte? (http://www.python.org)
What are your thoughts on the pros and cons of a "PyLatte" product?
-Chuck
