C/C++ was definitely much harder for me to learn than python/perl.  The
syntaxes of python/perl are roughly equally easy to learn, but I would
start with python, if you are new to programming.  In my
opinion/experience, (though my experience with perl is very limited) it
complains faster and with easier to understand error messages when you
make mistakes.
