It's easier -- perhaps I should say more credible -- to reach over to my 
bookcase and type in "Press, W. H., S. A. Teukolsky, W. T. Vetterling, and 
B. P. Flannery (1992). Numerical Recipes in C, Cambridge University Press, 
Cambridge", than to put "A library I have on my disk and I expect is on 
the web somewhere". Shipping product I don't care, but academic 
dissertations are not the real world -- or at least, are a /different/ 
real world.
