python email system help

I think if you will use Linux there is no real need to write anything,
since there are already available packages that will do the trick for
you. You might want to check 'fetchmail' (this will fetch e-mail from
remote POP3/IMAP account and store it locally) and 'diald' which will
establish an internet connection on demand. Check
http://www.freshmeat.net
to figure out where to get this stuff from if it's not already
installed.
