file.seek misbehaving?

Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about using the binary
mode. It's not a problem with eoln characters. When I said the
strings were identical, I meant including the eoln.

I can still use readline() for binary files, so for what I'm
doing, I won't need to change anything in my code except to open
in "rb" mode. I'll try this out tomorrow at work and post the
results.
