Problem with Emacs mode, at start only

I just tried it under XEmacs 21.1, and got the same behaviour as
Francois described.  In my case the problem arises because I have
customisations for the interactive shell in my .pythonrc file.  If I
just hit C-c C-c without starting py-shell first, python runs in
non-interactive mode, and my scripts can't find all the modules they're
expecting.
