I don't know what universe you are talking about, but VA Java too uses a
repository and so does Oracle. Also, every business application I know uses a
database instead of the file system. Usualy locking in a repository or in a
database is also more granular than what you would get in a file system.

Anyway, folks I guess this discussion belongs to comp.lang.smalltalk.advocacy,
don't you?
