Following your reasoning I do see there is a place for such
solutions as you describe them. Luckily, patterns can (and,
in fact, should) be tweaked and adapted a lot to the current
needs (and "forces") at hand!

Actually, I'm pretty sure there is already something like a
singleton-like pattern with more of the properties you like.
Maybe you should check Linda Rising's "Pattern Almanac" or
similar sources?
