Embedding Fonts in an Application

I'm looking to make a text viewer for a language with a non-roman script
(Burmese).
I have all script-handling, lexicon lookup software already developed,
but...
I need the visual front-end.

I want to be able to use it on multiple platforms not be tied to installing
fonts on windows.
I've  planned to put a font in some persistent form (perhaps Tex fonts??)

Anybody ever tried anything like this (embedding fonts in an application)
with Tkinter?
