Plug boards!  You young people today don't know what hardship is... when
I were a lad, we had to manually train rats the two (we had only
discovered two) logic gates so that they could operate the strings and
levers to perform even the most basic calculation.  I can recall waiting
three hours to find out what 13 squared was.  Worse - the smell was
unbelievable (so much so that the rats demanded that we programmers
washed once in a while).
