Ooh! This gives me goosebumps!

When I first started at Thames Polytechnic in London, they still
were keeping their Elliot system running, resplendent with its mercury
delay line.

Plus! (MS reference?) they changed multiple triodes every day.

You havn't lived until you have compiled Algol with paper tape for the
intermediate...
