Tools to develop data entry/query programs for text terminals in Python?

Hello!

Can anyone suggest a way to develop data entry/query programs for
dumb/charater/text terminals in python? I saw the python curses howto, I
am hoping to find an easier way.

These will help us develop front end apps for database such as
postgresql or mysql.

If there is a way to define data entry/query forms with field
definitions, screen arrays (grids) and such specs that can be then used
at runtime to handle screen i/o or to generate python code, that would
be wonderful.
