You might want to try out ICEBrowser which is released later this
week with JPython-support, which will let you embed the browser in
python code, write plugins for the browser in python or just as a 
replacement for Javascript in your web-pages. (Oh and of course you can
write applets in it as mentioned somewhere else in this thread)
