It turns out my openldap build has problem, I rebuild the openldap, then python-ldap bind is fine now.

I wonder if it’s a new manifestation (with new versions of everything involved) of an old problem.

I never did get it to work. I could bind, and even call whoami, but as soon as I tried to search, it failed.
