I'd be happy to help: I already collect info especially on Python (& some other) events as part of my work as a developer advocate. I've volunteered for several years at PyCon UK and do a few other volunteer community bits and pieces. I have read https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonEventsCalendar . I've one question about selection criteria: Conference criteria: the wiki page focusses mostly on "community" events which are also my favourite. Typically they have relatively low or free cost of entry, are run by members of the community, and talks focus generally on the practice of programming Python or culture within the community of programmers. But there are other more business-y events like https://conferences.oreilly.com/strata/strata-eu-2019/public/schedule/detail/74482 (~$1000 ticket) and https://odsc.com/boston/ (~$1200 min. at standard price). These are undoubtedly events where people talk about Python but are also definitely a category of their own. Are these acceptable? Happy to answer any qs you have! Let me know what you'd like me to do next if you're happy for me to help. Thanks for your work, Emanui -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Now, the only way to participate in the project is by registering on the python-events ML, since that's where all the incoming event listing requests will get posted. If you are one of the volunteers, please introduce yourself and let me know your Google account compatible email address. This is needed, since the two calendars we are maintaining are Google calendars. The next step then is to get you signed up with editing rights to those calendars and run through the process we have for putting events on the calendars. I have tried to put most aspects on the wiki page: https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonEventsCalendar#Python_Calendar_Team Please read it carefully and let me know whether you have any questions. There are most certainly some corner cases missing, where it's not clear to which calendar to add an event or whether to reject a request. We always ask people to send in requests using the email template we have for this: https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonEventsCalendar#Submitting_an_Event If someone does not follow those instructions, we usually either try to fill in the gaps or simply ask for a repost of the request in this format. Before adding an event, it has to be clear that the event has relevance for the calendars (= Python is the main driver of the event) and is not mainly focusing on training. We don't accept the latter since we already have a different resource for these, they are mostly commercial, would take up a lot of our time to maintain and clutter up the calendars. Perhaps we'll add a new calendar for these some day, but this would involve adding support on the python.org website as well. A special note on the event description: Since this is shown on the python.org website, in map mashups, on Twitter and other feeds, it needs to be short and informative. We've settled on just putting an HTML link into the field which then provides more information. When adding the link to the Google calendar you have to pay attention to the UI used for this. The Google UI requires pasting in a link as actual link (no HTML), whereas many IMAP clients need the raw HTML. Not using the right approach will result in the event either showing up quoted HTML on python.org or not be clickable. If you have questions, please let me know. Name of the event: Visual Diagnostics for Machine Learning with Python Type of event: Event by the DC Python Meetup Focus on Python/ Talk Abstract: Doing machine learning with Python has never been easier. So... why is it still so hard? Machine learning is a search for the best combination of features, algorithm, and hyperparameters across an infinite search space. It's rarely a linear process and often fraught with false starts, pivots, and do-overs. While it can be tempting to double down on gridsearch, research and experience alike suggest that human steering allows us to be more strategic in our model selection choices. In this talk we'll explore techniques from the open source Python machine learning diagnostics library Scikit-Yellowbrick that can help make machine learning more informed. For data scientists, Yellowbrick helps evaluate the stability and predictive value of machine learning models and improves the speed of the experimental workflow. For data engineers, Yellowbrick provides visual tools for monitoring model performance in real world applications. For users of models, Yellowbrick provides visual interpretation of the behavior of the model in high dimensional feature space. During the talk we'll explore how visual diagnostic tools like correlation matrices, radial visualizations, manifold embeddings, validation and learning curves, residuals plots, classification heatmaps, and more can provide visceral cues that enable us to identify better models, faster, and at lower cost to our organizations. Approximate number of attendees: 50-60 Location (incl. country): 1440 G Street Northwest, Washington, DC, United States Dates/times/recurrence (incl. time zone): Tuesday, February 25th, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. EST Time. HTML link using the format Visual Diagnostics for Machine Learning with Python: Please let me know if you need any more details!
