This is the wrong mailing list for such questions. Please
use the python-list instead.

What you found is the standard Bankers' rounding rule applied
in Python 3, called "round half to even":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rounding#Round_half_to_even

It helps reduce bias when rounding and is the default IEEE 754
rounding method.
