Agreed. I've uploaded a patch that does this to SF. Someone please review it
and apply it if desired. I need to head to bed or I won't get breakfast in
bed tomorrow ;)

I claim naivete for myself ;-) I remember seeing the patch go past, and
wondering briefly if that wouldn't break binary compatibility. And I
remember thinking "Naah, they wouldn't have approved it if that was an
issue." :)
