Should I work on this for 2.0?  Specifically 1) moving socketmodule to
_socket and writing a socket.py wrapper; 2) exporting make_fqdn() in
socket.py instead of smtplib.

It makes no sense for make_fqdn to live in smtplib.

I'd be willing to do this.
