Initial Comment:
In section 2.3.6.4 of the PYthon Library Reference,
Note (3) says that extend() raises and exception when
its argument is not a list object.  Extend does accept
a tuple without complaint, and does the expected thing.
 The note should correctly specify what is acceptable
as an argument.
