Summary: ext.doc uses deprecated(?) build proc.

Initial Comment:
python2.2 and up: The ext docs 
(http://www.python.org/doc/current/ext/building-on-
unix.html)  describe the deprecated(?) build 
procedure. At least Makefile.pre.in isn't installed in 
<libdir>/config. Should the documentation updated to a 
description how to build with distutils?

This is a bug, indeed, see my comments to 497697. Unless
somebody volunteers to write a patch for Makefile.pre.in, I
recommend to close 497697 as a duplicate of this report.
