Details: .../test/test_fork1 never terminates on
Python1.6b1 which runs on RedHat Linux:

uname -a     gives
Linux pclab55.research.bell-labs.com 2.2.14-5.0smp #1 SMP Tue Mar 7 21:01:40 EST 2000 i686 unknown

gcc 2.91.66    OPT set to -O -g   (also with -O2 -g)

configuration is --with-thread --prefix=/u/gpkdata/Linux



An identically compuled system (except gcc 2.95.1 )
on Solaris 2.6 operates properly.
