[Python-3000] Install on Vista / AMD64 AthlonX2 platform

I have been unable to install 3.0a5 on a Vista / AMD64 platform. 
I downloaded the amd64 3.0a5 installer and I have tried various ideas but always find that Vista complains that 'Installation package could not be opened'.
I would be grateful for instruction from anyone who has done this.
