I'm archiving it here to prove Portland is uber-cosmopolitan, with a direct flight to Germany and everything.[1] It'd be cool to drop everything and just go, rent a car in Frankfurt -- no, take a train, yeah. Google translate appearing right at the top of the gmail message does a decent job if that's your client. I'm impressed. FYI, I'm winding up at O'Reilly Media in the next couple weeks after a good run, taking on students through alternative experimental venues (ours was nothing if not experimental). Tonight I'm lurking in on a bootcamp @ .[2] Like, I'm teaching competitor Californians Python 3.x via Saisoft.net. California actually pays for some of its IT workers to get free in-place professional development courses, wow. Hey, I just found out about the new string interpolation features planned for 3.6, thanks to an alert mentor whom I was observing. Am I the last to know about this?: https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0498/ Bringing up the rear, Kirby oreillyschool.com ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Oliver Frietsch Date: 2016-01-11 12:10 GMT-08:00 Subject: PythonCamp 2016 - Free (German) Knowledge Exchange To: python-announce-list at python.org Cc: PythonCamp DE This is an announcement of a popular & free-to-participate, Python-focused un-conference taking place in Cologne, Germany. We are an IT company that provides services to a local group of companies owned by, and including, Erickson Group, Ltd. We have developed some internal tools and websites for the companies. The largest of which is the picking and receiving application for our warehouse. Currently it uses PythonCE on a Symbol MC9060 ?mobile computer? [1] which talks to a web backend written in Pylons. We are looking to upgrade the Pylons backend to Flask as well as switch the client application from the MC9060 to a Surface and Bluetooth scanner. The project will involve web stuffs, interfacing Python with C APIs, GUIs, and others. Beyond programming barcode scanner applications, we also have plans for internal websites, integration between a telephony provider, such as Twilio, and our ticketing system, and other projects as they may arise. I am looking for someone with solid Python knowledge. You don?t need to be a guru, but I do need someone who is comfortable with things like list comprehensions, appropriate uses of lambda, generators, etc. While I think any competent programmer can learn Python, I need someone who can start digging into the existing code immediately. I feel that anyone that is already comfortable with Python can do so. This is a full time position with medical, dental, vision, 401k, vacation and paid time off. If you are interested, or know someone who may be, please send your resume / cv and salary expectations to john dot hampton at erickson dot is. (yes, that?s a .is domain) [2] Erickson Information Services is located in Beaverton. It is close to the Beaverton Transit Center close to Beaverton-Hillsdale and I-217. Having a vehicle is not required, but will be helpful, when having to work with the warehouse which is located in Hillsboro. -John [1] http://www.isisintegration.co.uk/images/products/symbol_mc9000g_sidebar.jpg -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In exchange for Pizza we'll tweet about you and give you 5 minutes to talk to the audience about your company and the open position. If this interests you, please let me know. We'd very much appreciate it. I've included our full sponsorship blurb below for your information. Thanks, Joe Thank you for your interest in the Portland Python User Group! We're a group of ~1600 Python developers in Portland who meet twice a month to share ideas, discuss projects, and hack together. Our event calendar can be found on Meetup at: http://www.meetup.com/pdxpython/. Sponsoring our group is an excellent way of connecting with the Python community in Portland. The most common type of sponsorship is the support of a single meeting with food. Hot Lips Pizza is a favorite, and costs roughly $7/head, with a usual turn out of 30-50 Pythonistas per meeting. However, it's important to note that this can vary quite a bit - we've had more than 80 members at a sponsored event in the past! The quantity of food needed is determined the morning of the scheduled meeting based on the RSVP numbers. I would email you around noon the day of the meeting with the final RSVP count, then you'd take charge of ordering the pizza and having it delivered to the meeting. In exchange for supporting a meeting, we offer: - Acknowledgement in all promotional materials about the sponsored meeting, including tweets, blog posts and mailing list announcements - A logo, link, and blurb of your choice on our Meetup site, which shall remain for 3 months - Acknowledgement and thanks during the opening announcements of the sponsored meeting - 3-5 minutes at the beginning of the sponsored meeting to speak to the group about your organization - An invitation to bring your organization's swag and promotional materials to make available at the sponsored meeting - An invitation to join our post-meeting social hour and network with members A this time donations to The Portland Python User Group are not tax-deductible, but we are working with the Python Software Foundation to coordinate taking donations under the umbrella of their 501(c)(3) designation. Please feel free to get in touch if you'd like to discuss sponsoring one of our meetings, or supporting our group in another way. I haunt the Chipy listserv too and appreciate seeing those. As a teacher of the Python language, for PDX Code Guild, I'm always on the lookout for real world job openings to decode: "list comprehension", "Pylons" -- this is the language to know. What does it all mean? Tiny newspaper ads were relatively worthless in terms of giving insight into a real world situation. I'm also steering people towards Python User Group. Our Guild meetup forked off some time ago, as shown by the meetup mashup. I let them know another group in town is the one true Portland Python User Group that meets at Urban Airship.
