It will take place June 23?26, 2014, in Portland, Oregon, with five tracks connecting people across projects, languages and experience to explore how we do our work and why we participate in open source. The conference structure is designed to provide technologists with an opportunity to learn from people they might not connect with at other events. Attendees will learn and interact at three days of traditional conference presentations, a day of free-form unconference sessions, and our all-day Hacker Lounge. We?re also seeking presentation proposals through March 14th. Read our Call for Proposals at: http://opensourcebridge.org/call-for-proposals As a user group member, you can use the coupon code ?osbugluv? to register for only $215 when you select Regular Registration. Learn more and register today at http://opensourcebridge.org/attend/ The conference is run entirely by volunteers who believe in the need for an open source event that focuses on the culture of being an open source citizen, regardless of where in the stack you choose to work. If you?d like help out, take a look at: http://opensourcebridge.org/get-involved/ Our event shares in-depth knowledge about using, creating, and contributing to open source as citizens of a greater community. The abstract is follows: And now for something completely different: Centuries ago, a revolution in music enabled compositions to last for centuries with no bit rot. With compromises in tuning, a universal musician's API became possible: the piano keyboard. In the world of software, we have business logic, implementations, and abstractions. The more loosely we couple these, the more flexible, resilient and long lasting our software becomes. However, it's not an easy task: our tools and inclinations don't lead us the right way. Just as in music, it may take a step away from purity for software to achieve the highest level of resiliency. This multimedia presentation uses code examples in Python from Socorro, the Mozilla Firefox Crash Reporting System. This reveals some enlightening parallels between API abstractions and centuries old music. Employing abstractions that are slightly "out of tune", Socorro scales and flexes with remarkable ease. And, by the way, this is likely the only conference talk you've ever encountered that features live music on an electric bassoon? Please RSVP at meetup: http://www.meetup.com/pdxpython/events/221443682/ Hope to you see you there! Joe P.S. Sorry that I haven?t been sending out these email announcements. I?ll try to be more consistent in the future. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
