The partnership is negotiating a new Python gig maybe with a wx angle for pay, though not a lot. Plus I've got some Saturday Academy gigs lined up (no word back from Pycon yet -- over 140 talks in the hopper, extending their decision- making). Seems like a lot of enterprises are thinking to get off the VB tread mill, but that's not a new story -- some moved to Java, plus .NET remains attractive, so leaving VB doesn't necessarily mean leaving MSFT (e.g. there's Python .NET aka IronPython). Doesn't necessarily mean joining MSFT either though (e.g. there's Mono from Novell http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page ). There will be a bunch of people hanging out a Cubespace next Saturday playing games. If you enjoy Starcraft - or if you just want an excuse to spend more time at Cubespace - I would be happy to see you there. Specific information is included below. Please bring your own Starcraft machine, if you can. There may be some extras, but I can't make any guarantees. Cheers, Jesse ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Jesse Hallett Date: Dec 8, 2007 1:27 PM Subject: Starcraft day is next Saturday To: _recipients list suppressed_ Hello Everybody; This is a reminder that Starcraft day will be held next Saturday, December 15th from 10 am until 6 pm at Cubespace. Feel free to invite others!. Here is some information that will help you find the place: Cubespace 622 SE Grand Ave Portland, OR 97214 www.cubespacepdx.com 503-206-3500 info at cubespacepdx.com In case anybody is looking for a good, friendly place to conduct your work from: Cubespace is a great option. I'm sure the cubists will be happy to give people tours while we are there for those who are interested. I have set up a channel on Pibb to help us coordinate our activities. I think this will make it easier for us to set up games with people who will be participating remotely. To join the channel, log in to Pibb.com and look up the channel "informalrts". I suggest we use Pibb before the event starts to work out details such as what Battle.net server and channel we will be using. Pibb is a service that allows real-time chat style dialog - but with persistent conversations. So you can log in and see messages that were left before you arrived. It makes a pretty good backchannel. And once again; please bring your own Starcraft machine. I will bring an extra copy of the game, assuming it ships in time. And I will also try to bring an extra laptop. Anyone who does the same will be respected and admired. Looking forward to some good games, Jesse From freyley at gmail.com Wed Dec 12 22:42:03 2007 From: freyley at gmail.com (Jeff Schwaber) Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2007 13:42:03 -0800 Subject: [portland] Fwd: [pdx-groups] Few picks from the party In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <8db4a1910712121342g151189aeqe553de9b72fb174d@mail.gmail.com> ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Sam Keen Date: Dec 12, 2007 8:50 AM Subject: [pdx-groups] Few picks from the party Thanks to all who made it to the party. http://www.flickr.com/photos/29875616 at N00/tags/pdxcoderssocial/ if you have some of your own feel free to tag them pdxcoderssocial regards, Sam --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "pdxgroups" group.
