This is sooooo cute, I accept it.  Martin, please check it in.

(Is there any documentation of .pth files at all?  Maybe in the docs for
the site.py module?  Then this should be updated too!)

I think this is a good idea, but it's not clear that others will agree. 
Assigning to Guido since this is largely a matter of policy, and I'm not at
all sure he'll like the idea.
