Is that a better day? If we did a biweekly meetup/class that does conflict with Omaha Linux User Group which is thefirst Tuesday of every month for me. I was thinking a Wednesday 7-8:30 and another time perhaps on a weekend, but didn't want too late if we did Sunday?? Thoughts?? Also ideas on where to start (how basic)/what resources to use. Naomi has teaching/training experience if I read correctly.? I'd like her input. pythonroom.com, pythonanywhere, etc. DoSpace seems like the most logical place to me for all due to location/hours, etc.? I'd be coming from the east. I believe, that for a period, over the years, we have met on every day except for Friday and Sunday. There is no perfect day, the trick is to find one that currently works well and then do your best to be consistent. One other thing of note (IMHO) is that if you put it to a vote, give a big consideration to those who attend the meetings vs those voting on-line. If a member attends a meeting they are more likely to attend the next. You should have received an email. It is a Wordpress site, so you can modify the theme, add/remove whatever you feel would be good. If you would like to change to a different platform then connect with Jeff, as he set up the hosting originally. Let me know if I can assist in other ways. It is exciting to see the group active. Each has different strengths etc. If you want to be taught I would still suggest online courses or instructional classes. I?m more or less wanting this to be newbie friendly in the sense that the projects are at a level anyone can jump in on. If that means starting off working through instructional text then sure but I don?t really want this to be 1 person at the front of the room while everyone follows along. I do have lots of resources I?m willing to share as I?m sure a lot of us do. However if someone of course learned a thing they want to show off I?m not opposed to giving them time for that either. :) Sound good? This new version contains lots of fixes and, notably, several new features available for everyone to test. The pre-release of Python 3.7 is available not only in Fedora Rawhide but also all other Fedora versions." From the Fedora Magazine article: Python 3.7 now available in Fedora. You can read it here https://fedoramagazine.org/python-3-7-now-available-in-fedora/ From naomi.see at seenaomi.net Fri Mar 23 13:14:10 2018 From: naomi.see at seenaomi.net (Naomi See) Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2018 12:14:10 -0500 Subject: [omaha] Next meeting in April Message-ID: Hey folks Happy Friday! I have been brainstorming behind the scenes for a bit here. Although I want the meetings to be primarily project based I thought the first regroup will be more of a feel everyone out meeting. I'm pending an individual confirmation that I asked to come in who is learning Python as they build their current passion project. Depending on which date works best for him our next meeting will be either Wednesday 4/11 or Thursday 4/19 @ DoSpace @ 5:45-7pm. As soon as I get confirmation I will provide the definite date. I am working on getting sponsorship for food. DoSpace has recently changed their policies and from April going forward food is allowed but only from currently 3 locations (pizza being one of them). So if I can't find a food sponsor that can provide Jimmy Johns then we might need to stick with everyone feeding themselves before hand or change venues. There are currently several venue options including my current employer who isn't terribly far from DoSpace. I know you aren't a terribly needy bunch but food brings programmers to the yard and that also brings up the next point in which I note that I'm creating a meetup account and twitter account for us this weekend. In hopes this will help broaden our reach. This weekend is all about this group and I'll keep you in the loop of all progress. :) Thank you! My person isn't in Nebraska at all in April. Does anyone have a small passion project they have been working on they want to talk about at the next meetup? I'll leave this question open through the weekend. If not then I'll share a little something and pick a date. Have a great weekend! I went ahead and booked DoSpace Meeting Rm 2 for April 19th. Attendees are welcome to join at 5:45pm the meeting will kick off at 6pm. I went ahead and created a meetup dot com account so folks can register their attendance there please. The details of the agenda are located there as well. Currently the room holds 20 people hopefully that's enough space. ;) I also went ahead and created a Twitter account for the user group in an attempt to also broaden the reach of this group. Please help spread the word as the intention is for this to be welcoming for all user skill levels and ideally project based. If you have feedback about how this group should operate this meeting is a great place to voice them. Thank you!
