[Numpy-discussion] did anyone create numpy.slack.com?

There's a NumPy Gitter as well, but most core devs are not using it. Note
that this is mostly meant for dev discussions and (the reason I'm creating
it) mentoring new people 1:1 or in a small group. All actual new volunteers
said in the community call that they expected Slack, and people like
Sebastian, Stefan and myself are on Slack very regularly as well.

This is related to https://github.com/numpy/numpy/pull/14027. Public
channels (mailing list, GitHub) are our preferred communication mechanism;
this and a new numpy-team at googlegroups.com are additions for private
communications to lower the bar to start contributing. It turns out not
everyone is comfortable with their first question or code being seen by
1000+ people.

tl;dr the usual worries you post below aren't very relevant in this case,
and anything but Slack is pretty much a non-starter.

Cheers,
Ralf
