Well, if anyone has a good answer, please post.  I don't have quite as many 
architectures to worry about, but it's still a pain and I don't have a really 
good answer.  Judicious use of yum and an NFS-shared /usr/local helps to some 
extent, but it's not a real solution by a looong shot.
