Sorry for the cross posting on such a large number of lists but this is
something that needs India wide viewrship and there's no single list
that does that. Also, it would be nice if people could continue follow
up discussions on the inpycon list since that's a broad cross section of
all these lists. 

This is a little late coming but better late than never. 

As many of you probably know, there is a python.org.in website now which
has a rather ambitious goal of being an umbrella for the entire Python
community in India. It is funded by the IPSS. The idea is to provide a
subdomain named after a city (e.g. bangalore.python.org.in) and give
privileges of that subdomain to a webmaster who can handle it. 

At the top level, there will be services which are relevant India wide
like a job board (details undecided) and an India wide planet RSS
aggregator. Anand C., Krace, Dhananjay and others have done some work
already on the main site and various subdomains. 

I think there's potential but we need to take small firm steps rather
than wild ones if we want to see this grow and help the Python
community in India. 

I'm proposing a meeting on IRC #python-india on freenode this Wednesday
(9 January 2013) at (say) 2030 in the evening. We can beat out the
details, try to formalise what to do and get down to doing it. 

Do reply on inpycon and let's decide the time and date of the meeting.

I would like to propose a ILUG-Delhi meeting this Sat., the
12th of January, 2013, from 3-5pm.

As various FOSS organisations in Delhi, and indeed in most
of India, seem to be having trouble getting people together, I
thought  that it would be good to combine this meeting with a
couple of others that have been proposed by other groups:
* Cryptography party, organised by SFLC, India ( http://www.sflc.in )
* A meeting of the NCR Python users group

Please edit the agenda at

Instead of JNU, the location will be the SFLC, India office
at Jangpura as they have already publicised that venue for
the Crypto Party. I will post directions once the agenda is
finalised.

It is hard to definitively tell why to_python() is called twice,
without digging through the Django admin. code. My guess is
that:
* As you have set SubfieldBase metaclass, it is called once when
  the field is created.
* It is called again on form validation: "The to_python() method
  on a Field is the first step in every validation."

Mention what you are trying to achieve when you ask a question. Otherwise
how somebody can help you? Seeing your implementation I don't get any idea
what you are trying to do. It doesn't look like something that requires a
custom ModelField. Anyway the i guess the reason that it is getting called
twice is, you have __metaclass__ django.db.models.SubFieldBase
which will call to_python() every time you try to set an attribute in a
class which is created by metaclass SubFieldBase. In the course of
execution some where as part of validation it is trying to access the
'editor_id' which will give an AttributeError, followed by a setattr on
that ProfiledUserField in turn to_python gets called with a None value. I
didn't investigate much so my guess might be wrong. Try using a pdb and
follow the path.

PS: If you are mentioning what you want to achieve, there may be better
solutions than writing custom Model Field.

Hi Vishal , The conference will be on saturday while the hackathon
will be from Friday to Sunday Evening.

On my part I plan to work on something called announce.js integrating
with django messages.
Obviously being an unconference you can decide to submit something of
your own. Also you can attend the hackathon as per your convinience

we have a project on data mining this semester.
it can be great help if i can get some ideas from here.
one of the ideas that has popped into my head is information retrieval on
storage devices.i need to know if this project would be good.and i would
also like to have some more advice on how i can enhance this project.
if this is not a good idea, it would be great help if i can have some
better ones.
my research interest is operating systems.and language preference is
python,c.

It totally compels my wonder when i see posts like this from students. My
simple suggestion would be,
1 - Do search about the topic you are going with.
2 - Nobody can tell you about the idea as nobody other than you is doing
that course. But yes take suggestions from your faculties from your
colleagues, look at what other college students are doing and then you can
decide.... Their are many lists are available on the internet who can give
you a projection about this.
3 - Your interest doesn't reflect anything to me like what do you want to
do in Operating system or in python or in C. All of these are very vast
field and if could be little more specific, maybe somebody on the list can
help you.
4 - And if your college faculties have specifically told you to work on
data mining, i think it's better to consult with them on this and then when
you choose something to go with, maybe we can help you.

but most of the times it's not specific to this group only, other groups
also join like Linux-Delhi. We keep posting and commenting on these issues
