Generally, you need a macro to show the form, and an action to do the server side work, unless one of the exiting actions does what you want. Both macro and action can be installed as plugins - in wiki/data/plugin/macro or as builtins - in prefix/lib/python2.x/site-packages/MoinMoin/macro. Hallo, I recently had to recover and rebuild the TsmWiki after a disk failure. I rebuilt, installed apache, python 2.4, moinmoin, created apache aliases and then just replaced the apache alias dir's with the content of the wiki. At this point, I think everything is as it was before. Now, you can goto www.tsmwiki.com/tsmwiki to see for yourself, try doing a page search. It appears that none of the macros are working, instead I just see things like [[GetText()]] etc.. embedded into the page text. This bug could have been fixed in the current code base. But unfortunately, I have not released DesktopEdition for the 1.3.5 release (primarily because of the many open bugs like Python 2.2 incompatiblity). So you will have to wait for the next DesktopEdition release (which could be 1.5). Missing 'current' file?" Message-ID: <200509061101.11562.vincefn@users.sourceforge.net> Hi all, I setup a moinmoin wiki on sourceforge (at http://objcryst.sf.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi). As apparently many other, the data directories (world-writable) were deleted on 20050831. I used my rsync backup to bring back the wiki online, no problem. But when I tried modifying a page, I got the (infamous ?) error: "Page could not get locked. Missing 'current' file ?" At first I thought it was the file permissions but evrything was world-writable, so that was not it. After some time I found the actual problem, which was coming from the MoinEditorBackup pages, which are stored whenever you edit a new page in the directory: data/pages/YourWikiUserName(2f)MoinEditorBackup Somewhere in PageEditor._write_file moinmoin tries to change the permissions and got booted. Bottom line: when recovering a backup, do *not* copy the data/pages/YourWikiUserName(2f)MoinEditorBackup directories... Maybe this should be added to the "Page could not get locked" FAQ in http://moinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de/MoinMoinQuestions/Errors ? One note about sourceforge accounts. I am not sure it is really necessary to change the umask in config.py to 0777. Actually 0755 (0744 ?) should be sufficient. Thus files created by the web user are not writeable by you, but if you need to do that (removing all files), all you have to do is go in some moinmoin python code and temporarily add a line with "os.system("chmod -R 0777 /tmp/persistent/MY_PROJECT/") ? This won't prevent a stupid web-activated script to erase all data belonging to nfsnobody, but at least it will not be world-writable anymore, so a script running on the shell servers will not be able to scrap the data anymore. Unfortunately, it seems that some macros related to the Title of a page fail: -- [[OrphanedPages]] reports existing pages missing when a link is disguised (btw: all pages created by Calendar) -- [[WantedPages]] claims the page linked to with ["Peters's_Internship"] is missing although it is there and the link works. -- clicking on the Title (a full search with ' linkto:"name-of-a- title" ' ) fails to show pages with links whenever the link is disguised. Particulary the last point is most annoying, depriving me of one of the most powerful features of the wiki. Now the (obvious) QUESTION: Is it possible to remedy that (mis-) behavior? I use Moin 1.3.5 . Is there something on the horizon for future versions? BTW, I make use of [:name-of-a-page/optional-name-of-a-subpage:this- text-is-shown] to disguise links to pages, and ["name-of-the-page"] to insert links to arbitrarily named page. Regards, uw. If you want to change the behavior of your theme, but use the same "look" as another theme, you don't have to create a new theme directory. See example of such theme at . > Am I missing something about how a theme can be defined? I'd like to > have a single place that defines a theme? Currently there is no farm plugin directory. Until we have one, you have to install theme files in all the wikis, or use symlinks/hardlinks. The shared files of each theme should be at the htdocs directory, if you want to share them with multiple versions of moin, you can copy or link them from one location. Which kind of documentation/help texts are you missing? Many things apply to a rst-wiki as well, most markup things are just missing in ReST. And those missing things are described in documents that deal with ReST (written by other people to explain ReST), like in the primer that is in the help pages (search for primer). The biggest issue isn't so much that help pages aren't available, but that things like the edit view for a page include help text that's syntax dependent. I just found in the code where that text is added; it looks like it won't be a matter of configuring an installation to change that. MoinMoin.PageEditor.PageEditor is a huge chunk of code to copy for what seems like should be a simple customization, but that looks like I'll have to do something like that. I'm brand new to the MoinMoin code; is there a structural overview written up somewhere? PageEditor is not the most beautiful piece of code :) We plan to move the display code to the theme, and leave the editor logic in PageEditor. Done properly, one will be able to override single method to replace the help text, or edit the css to change the location and look of this text. That help text could be part of the parser. Each parser should provide the basic help for its syntax. Then you will get automatically the help text for the current #format, or the wiki default_format. > I'm brand new to the MoinMoin code; is there a structural overview > written up somewhere? I don't know if there will be another 1.3 release before 1.5. I decided to step back and upload a pair of existing .draw and .png files to my local Moin desktop edition. No go there either. Are file attachments not supported by the desktop edition? (You may recall that there is a problem trying to re-edit a drawing when any of the text contains line feeds in it because the *.draw file winds up with extraneous ^M codes embedded in it.) The twikidraw.jar file was obtained from someone who I'm pretty sure is using it with the twiki wiki (rather than MoinMoin) and it doesn't work under MoinMoin. There seems to be a problem where the file name is not understood by the jar file. When it writes out the drawing, the status doesn't show any file name (just the suffixes) and no file shows up under the attachments subdirectory for the page. Does anyone know where I can obtain the java source files for the twikidraw.jar version used in MoinMoin? Does the MoinMoin version contain some modification which the original twikidraw.jar (from twiki.org) does not -- which relates to handling the attachment file name? Thanks. If I worked in a Mac-only environment (and that's what I have at home) OmniGraffle would be fine, but this particular problem involves communicating with my work environment, which is Solaris-based. I agree TwikiDraw is pretty darn feeble, but it's adequate, and everyone has it here at the office. Many times the settings for the browser or the CSS make level 1 headings simply way too large (this is a common problem in my experience and is certainly not Moin-specific), so people start their documents with level 2. At work I also see people use lower-level headings to simply bold a line of text. I know neither is correct usage, but unfortunately that's life. I'd second that. We use the feature with level 3 - and that's in a custom theme with the font height already reduced. I know neither is correct usage, but unfortunately that's life. Maybe moin built in themes should come with smaller headings? These are the current styles in modern (others use same or similar styles): h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 { margin: 1.5em 0 0 0; padding: 0; color: black; line-height: 1.2em; } h2 {font-size: 1.6em;} h3 {font-size: 1.3em;} h4 {font-size: 1.1em;} h5, h6 {font-size: 1em;} h1 is used for the page title, = this = map to

this

. We can never make everyone happy. We need a design that will make 80% users happy, and make it easy for the other 20% to customize. A user can use its own css file, overriding the headings: h2 {font-size: 1.3em;} h3 {font-size: 1.1em;} h4, h5, h6 {font-size: 1em;} This can be applied using user css field in UserPreferences, or by the browser user css. For example in Safari, Preferences:Advanced:Style Sheet menu. Wiki admin can clone the site theme and change the css. If you want to serve multiple themes, you will have more work of course. We can solve this by using a site css file, so the admin can override all themes using one site.css file, and the user override both themes and site.css with its own user.css file. In many places moin does not care about which headings you start with. For example, if you create this page: [[TableOfContents]] === heading 1 === ==== heading 2 ==== The toc will show: 1. heading 1 2. heading 2 MonthCalendar can parse pages in a similar way - show you the contents of the first headings used on the page, not hardcoded level 1 heading. Well, I can think of a few reasons: (1) not everyone is using a Mac; (2) twikidraw is free; (3) twikidraw is minimally integrated with MoinMoin. Incidentally, I was able to obtain a version of twikidraw sources which I was able to patch to solve the embedded '\r' problem in text labels containing newlines. Appearantly, this is a generally desired ability, at least as far as the help text goes, but no implementation has been done yet. It's possible to make changes here by hacking on the MoinMoin.PageEditor module directly, which is what I ended up doing since I don't have time to play with and contribute to the CVS head right now, though I think I see how something simple could be worked out for the help text. The MoinMoin.PageEditor module has a string literal in the sendEditor() method; that's the place to make changes for now. In my case, my wiki isn't using the classic markup by default, so I simply wrapped the help text generation with an 'if self.cfg.default_markup == "wiki"' condition. -Fred -- Fred L. Just visit MissingPage or a translation of it in your language, and change the text as you like. Note that if you edit this page, it will be copied into you data directory, and when you upgrade your wiki it will not be overwritten by a new version. If you want to go back and use the standard page, just delete your new page (More Actions: Delete Page). Yea, from some reason I thought he talks about the missing page :) I wonder if having a ParserEditorHelp page displayed inside the editor will solve the problem for in such cases. That would certainly help. I think there are (at least) two axes of variation that affect what should happen by default: - the markup language for the page (default for new pages, current for existing pages) - the user's language (as negotiated with the browser), or maybe using the page's current language or the wiki's default language I'm not sure what the best way would be to handle both of these in a way that can easily be adjusted within the wiki's content space. -Fred -- Fred L. That is not the expected behavior. One does not think of pagenames of included pages as titles at the same level as the heading above them. They are not expected to be headings at all. Is it possible to change this behavoir of the TableOfContents macro in the current Moin release? I did not find any hint in the docs. Probably it was intended to incorporate the headings of the included page, but that should IMHO not be the default but turned on by a certain switch. However, even if that was the desired behaviour there are not anchors generated and therefore klicking on this wrong "headings" has no effect either. Please try that and you should see a working but very insecure MoinMoin. In that case, you need to ask your provider for correct setuid configuration for the CGIs or try to create the data directory by writing a CGI. Message-ID: I know this is doable in web browsers, though I don't know if it can be done in Moin--I tried the "obvious" way, and it didn't work... Basically, I want to be able to include a link to a video, and have that show up as a video player frame within the page containing the link. The video should not start downloading or playing until the user clicks the "play" button in the video player. I tried the obvious "inline:myvid.mov", but that doesn't work--I'm allowed to upload the movie through that link, but then in the web page, I just get a very wide, short frame of the sort that would be used around {{{...}}} text. Some of the pages will be under tight editorial control (highly restricted), while others will be free for editing by everyone. This is enforced by default ACLs being restrictive, and less restrictive pages having specific ACLs giving more rights. I realize this is somewhat of an inversion of typical usage, but we wanted to make the more conservative option the default. Unfortunately, I know of no way to set things up so that a page is created with the same #ACL list as its parent page, which is what is desired in this case. Is there any way of doing so? Message-ID: Hello all together, I have searched the list for some information on my topic, but found no answer yet. So I send this email, perhaps someone has a tip or even a solution for me. I want to get something doing this: - I have a setup where the MoinMoin Desktop Edition will be installed on a DVD. It is a knowledge repository that may be easily installed on every desktop. - Together with the wiki come a lot of ressources which are handled external to the wiki. There are some reasons for to do that, but just believe me, that is necessary. - There should be a way to link the external ressources inside the wiki. When I use a link like file:///d:/some/stupid/file.exe, it is displayed in the browser, but the browser does not open it for security reasons. What I would like to get is the following: 1. Expand the configuration to allow for a variable that denotes the root of the external ressources file system. 2. Write a macro or action, that takes the value of the variable, the relative path to a ressource, and provides that ressource as a http ressource to the browser. I know that are two different questions, but I need answers for both of them to get my solution working. If anyone could point me to some example that does similar things, I will dive again into python (last wrote something in python now 8 years ago) and implement that solution (of cource, with providing it to the community :-)). I hope there is a kind soul somewhere out there to help me Bye Markus From dm at belkam.com Thu Sep 29 01:27:27 2005 From: dm at belkam.com (Dmitry Melekhov) Date: Thu Sep 29 01:27:27 2005 Subject: [Moin-user] how to allow page deletetion? Or the first best search engine or leecher will f*ck up your wiki. It has a reason why the default for revert is to be "Known" at least. Long-Term we will have to fix that by using a http POST instead of that simple GET it uses now. "delete" is less of a problem, it uses POST already. But I would think over allowing it for All, too.
