[Matplotlib-devel] Minor history re-writing + renaming default branch

Folks,

Elliott and I are in the process of implementing the changes discussed in
https://discourse.matplotlib.org/t/minor-re-writing-of-history-and-moving-from-master-to-main-for-default-branch/22354/10
.

To make sure we do not get any conflicts, we have temporarily increased the
required number of reviews to merge to 6.

I will update when we are done.
