A few years ago I asked yahoo! whether they had such functionality.

The reply was negative and they didn't seem keen to change it either.

I think perhaps one alternative would be to edit your mailman public html files to have "archives prior to date x" and have it pointing to the group's old url.

I know, not a great solution :(
