If an address is not a list member, the only ways I know that mailman 
will try to send to it are

It is an 'owner', or
It is a 'moderator' (have you checked to be sure it isn't either of 
these), or

Mailman is sending some kind of reply to a message received from that 
address - e.g. a possibly spoofed post attempt.
