How can I automatically unsubscribe someone from an announce list, using a php script?

I tried sending an email to listname-request at mydomain.com with the following command in the subject line:

unsubscribe EMAIL_OF_SUBSCRIBER

Unfortunately, the subscriber gets a confirmation message to choose whether they want to unsubscribe or not.  My goal is to unsubscribe the person from the list as soon as their service expires.

Any suggestions?
