That's not really a bad idea, but you could also just install the
python2 (and associated -devel package) from the RH 7.3 distro.

$ cat /etc/redhat-release; rpm -q python python2
Red Hat Linux release 7.3 (Valhalla)
python-1.5.2-43.73
python2-2.2.2-11.7.3

Then you can install mailman 2.1, just passing the --python option to
point at the python2 binary.
