I think it's very simply an issue of Barry, and the few other people who
contribute to mailman, being quite busy with... .... coding :-)

In other  words, we  code what we  can (well,  I code what  I need  the most
first, I tend to be selfish in that way :-D), feel free to do the same and
submit patches :-)
