[Mailman-Users] configure problems

Python 2.2.1 (#1, Jul 16 2002, 13:08:19) 
[GCC 3.0.4] on sunos5

When I run configure, I get:

...
checking for mailman UID... Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "conftest.py", line 1, in ?
    import pwd, string
ImportError: No module named pwd
cat: cannot open conftest.out

configure: error: 
***** No "mailman" user found!
***** Your system must have a "mailman" user defined
***** (usually in your /etc/passwd file).  Please see the INSTALL
***** file for details.


But mailman is valid...

extern/mailman-2.0.12% grep mailman /etc/passwd
mailman:x:1609:720::/usr2/mailman:/bin/tcsh


Can anyone help?
