You can do:

~mailman/bin/list_members $LISTNAME > $WEBDIR/subscriber-count.txt

in your crontab, and include the subscriber-count.txt file in your
page with a server-side include.  (substute your list name and web
site directory for $LISTNAME and $WEBDIR)
