[Mailman-Users] Long delay before delivering

Look in your ~mailman/Mailman/Defaults.py (you don't edit that file, but you
look for the field you want to edit then copy it over to mm_cfg.py - and
then edit that file!).

You will find several timeout values that you can adjust.  It sounds like
you need to tweak these in order to optimize Mailman on your system.  As an
alternative, you might consider running a better optimized MTA like
Postfix...
BTW: what is your MTA?
