I had the first problem and solve using the group id instead of group name
--with-mail-gid=6 should solve your first problem I think..
The second problem can be solved putting an Alias into your Apache conf
files I believe.. but since I haven't done it before I'm not sure..
Another solution which is very bad :) is to link your user public_html
directory from apache document root..
