I'll preface this by saying I am not a Lotus Notes/Domino expert.
The way lotus notes is configured at work we have a lotus notes
"long" name, and an internet email address.  The notes long name
takes the form of   name/location/notesdomain.  The internet email
address is the conventional  userid at emaildomain.  When someone
not using notes wishes to send me email they address it to
userid at emaildomain and it gets aliased to name/location/notesdomain.

In otherwords, I'm not sure of your users notes configuration but
they may have a friendlier email id that they're unaware of, and
that friendlier id is aliased to the notes id that they're familiar
with.
