[Mailman-Users] Feature Request

Hello,

I managed to get a couple days off (to go to the BSDCon, wooh) and of
course everything broke while I was out of the office :)

Mailman broke too, I'm afraid. One of our lists sent out a slew of
duplicate messages until it was killed manually. This is Mailman
2.0b5 on FreeBSD 4.0-STABLE. I did patch Python to fix the LAST mail
looping bug, so I haven't figured out why it misbehaved this time.

Anyway, I have a feature request that relates to this. What do you
think about adding a lookup table for each list with digests of the
bodies of the last day's posts. When Mail man sends message, it
could check that table to see if it has already sent an exact
duplicate, and perhaps notify the administrator if a duplicate pops
up. Does that make sense? I don't do Python yet, or I would attempt
this myself.

I don't know what caused this last loop, but whatever the reason was,
I wish Mailman had some safeguards that would have detected and
prevented it. These are pretty painful when they happen.

Thanks for listening.

PS: second attempt to send this. First try gave me an error message...
