[Mailman-Users] new user with installation question

Hi,
  I'm trying to install mailman-2.0rc1 on a Linux system running apache 1.3.14.
I am getting the following error:

Mailman CGI error!!!

The expected gid of the Mailman CGI wrapper did not match the gid as set by the Web server.

The most likely cause is that Mailman was configured and installed incorrectly. Please read the INSTALL instructions again, paying close attention to the --with-cgi-gid configure option. This entry is being stored in your syslog: 

Failure to exec script. WANTED gid 99, GOT gid 2.  (Reconfigure to take 2?)

I have tried reinstalling with the following configuration command:

./configuration --with-cgi-gid=99

but I get the same error.

Does anyone know what possible errors I could be making?
