[Mailman-Users] mail2news by itself?

Is it possible to use the mail<=>news gateway part of mailman
by itself?  We pipe several outside mailing lists (eg bugtraq)
to internal newsgroups for the convenience of staff and have
noticed that mailman's gatewaying is superior to the homebrew
we use for the outside lists ...

short of setting up a mailing list for each newsgroup and
doing it that way, can this be done?
