this is the only thing out of the ordinary in the intrusion detection
output:

changed: -rwxr-xr-x root       425684 Apr 18 10:05:40 1999 /usr/bin/python1.5

Any idea what could have caused that?  

Can you go grab the rpm from somewhere safe and reinstall it, just to be
sure?
