At the moment, any Hebrew I write comed out as gybberish Latin letters. Is there a contibution that adds Hebrew to this system? if not, how can I create one? Is there a contribution guide somewhere online? if not, what file(s)/DB do I need to edit in order to modify an existing language into Hebrew? I'd speculate (without ever seeing the inner workings of the system) that the language list is held in a databese, with the language name and default charset. Can anyone give me any more directions as to how I can access this DB and make the needed modifications? I don't know if Hebrew is supported, but you may want to take a look at the file Defaults.py for lines like add_language('es', _('Spanish (Spain)'), 'iso-8859-1') add_language('et', _('Estonian'), 'iso-8859-15') and add one line for Hebrew. The first argument is the language code, the second the language name, and the third the encoding name. In addition to the Defaults.py entry (you should edit mm_cfg.py) you should also consult README-I18N.en document in the source distribution and http://www.list.org/i18n.html Mailman internationalization page. I've been doing the job my self for some months but now I have a few people interested in helping me. Now the question is: how can I divide the .po files to divide the job? And more over: I switched to Mac and one of my helpers is working on Mac also but cannot find a po editor. Do you have any help for this? Thanks to all. There is only one mailman.po file for each language. Theoretically you can split it into several files, send to other people, and when they send it back - join together for one file. But this is not good idea. Better send whole mailman.po file to every person and just say them "you are translating from msgid XXX to msgid YYY". When they finish you will need only to merge different versions of the same file. This can be made manually, or using standart tools like diff and patch. The best solution is to use some version control system (CVS is still the most popular one). If you don't have your own CVS server, you can register new project of sf.net or savannah.gnu.org - they provide CVS access. cheers BArtek From mardy at users.sourceforge.net Sun Jul 31 22:30:42 2005 From: mardy at users.sourceforge.net (Alberto Mardegan) Date: Sun, 31 Jul 2005 22:30:42 +0200 Subject: [Mailman-i18n] Interlingua language Message-ID: <20050731203042.GA11525@pupilla> Hello everybody! I and some other people are working for adding interlingua (http://www.interlingua.com) support to Mailman. We have added a directory messages/ia/LC_MESSAGES and are currently translating the mailman.po file. And we are translating the templates, too. Is there any other thing that should be done? I guess that some programmer will have to add interlingua to the list of Mailman's known languages; will this happen as we send you the final files, or should I inform someone some time before? Thank you very much for your support and for this beautiful piece of software! Ciao! -- Saluti, Mardy http://interlingua.altervista.org ___________________________________ Yahoo!
