Message-ID: Greetings, I've been working on an Amharic translation of Mailman. Following the README-I18N.en I updated the Defaults.py and the mailman.pot. I copied the english templates into a "templates/am" directory for later. This worked fine. Via web I would see the list interface with an english template and amharic words from the message catalog. A few weeks later I've updated the templates for amharic, but they are still coming out as english -!? I've restarted mailman and the web server, but to no avail. Is there some extra step needed to activate the templates? Clearing mailman cache or setting extra variables in a .py file?? thanks in advance, /Daniel From rpintor at unex.es Thu May 13 06:46:42 2004 From: rpintor at unex.es (=?iso-8859-1?Q?Ra=FAl_Pintor_Dur=E1n?=) Date: Thu May 13 07:08:13 2004 Subject: [Mailman-i18n] Spanish Traduction Message-ID: <4540.158.49.2.94.1084445202.squirrel@webmail.unex.es> Hello, I have installed Mailman and get it running well in a Debian Woody with Postfix. Strange - nothing special is needed to activate templates translation. Did you check your translation with bin/transcheck program from Mailman root directory? Mailman does not have any special cache, so you can't clear it;) Only you can do is to remove *.pyc files, but i don't think it helps. ciao BArtek From sawickib at iem.pw.edu.pl Thu May 13 09:27:32 2004 From: sawickib at iem.pw.edu.pl (Bartosz Sawicki) Date: Thu May 13 09:27:42 2004 Subject: [Mailman-i18n] Spanish Traduction In-Reply-To: <4540.158.49.2.94.1084445202.squirrel@webmail.unex.es> References: <4540.158.49.2.94.1084445202.squirrel@webmail.unex.es> Message-ID: <40A377C4.2080103@iem.pw.edu.pl> > I'm trying to do the html site where the archives are reades > in Spanish, but there are no options about that. Default language for the list (preferred_language) is used for archive generation, so there IS option about that !:) > I alse have noticed that I have not the command addlang, so I can't change > the language. Any notices will be great, thanks If you want to change default language of the whole Mailman, you just need to add line: DEFAULT_SERVER_LANGUAGE = 'es' to the Mailman/mm_cfg.py file. cheers BArtek From locales at geez.org Thu May 13 09:45:56 2004 From: locales at geez.org (Daniel Yacob) Date: Thu May 13 09:36:46 2004 Subject: [Mailman-i18n] Activating Templates? Message-ID: Thank you, I wasn't aware of transcheck, I ran it and it pointed out and error in archtoc.html where it said there were "- Too few %(listname)s" I checked and I had a %(listname) only, adding the 's' it passed the transcheck test. But archtoch.html still isn't loading. I'm working with UTF-8 and not adding a BOM to the start of files if that makes a difference. Also I am modifing the files in the install directory (/usr/local/mailman/templates). I had assumed the 's' after %(listname) indicated a plural. If it is "%(listname)" only and not "%(listname)s" that gets substituted later this isn't an ideal way to handle pluralized words since the 's' would make sense only for a limited number of languages. Seperate %(listname) and %(listnames) messages could work more universally. thanks again, /Daniel From sawickib at iem.pw.edu.pl Thu May 13 09:54:36 2004 From: sawickib at iem.pw.edu.pl (Bartosz Sawicki) Date: Thu May 13 09:54:48 2004 Subject: [Mailman-i18n] Activating Templates? But the best way to check your translation is to compare it with other which is working fine (eg. Serbian and Ukrainian uses UTF-8) > I had assumed the 's' after %(listname) indicated a plural. %(xxx)s is replaced by value of variable xxx, which should be treated as character string. 's' at the end means String, and has nothig with plural form. see you BArtek From locales at geez.org Thu May 13 11:41:17 2004 From: locales at geez.org (Daniel Yacob) Date: Thu May 13 11:32:14 2004 Subject: [Mailman-i18n] Activating Templates? Are they loading? nope, none of the translated templates load, I referenced archtoc.html just for an example. The permissions are identical to all others. Even stranger is that I've just tried moving "en" to "en.bak" and linking am to en. Restarted everthing, changed web browsers, and still no change! I went with the default installation options, is /usr/local/mailman/templates the right directory to be working in?? Or does mailman use another directory at run time? >> I'm working with UTF-8 and not adding a BOM to the start of files if that >> makes a difference. You can change it by variable TEMPLATE_DIR (see Defaults.py and mm_cfg.py) cheers BArtek From dmab at chez.com Mon May 3 13:40:53 2004 From: dmab at chez.com (=?iso-8859-1?Q?David_Bourguignon?=) Date: Sun May 16 22:16:12 2004 Subject: [Mailman-i18n] Encoding problem Message-ID: Hi all, I have a problem to register to mailing lists managed with gnu mailman. According to people on the mailman users list (verbatim): "The problem is that your MUA is encoding the message in 8-bit quoted-printable format. The "=?iso-8859-1?Q?" stuff at the beginning is the way that the MUA tells the receiver what the character set is (ISO 8859-1), and the encoding is quoted-printable. You need to turn off quoted-printable within your mail program, and use plain 7-bit ASCII. However, this is a question that is specific to your particular mail program, and you should start by talking to your ISP." I wonder if this problem is not also due to the mailman installation on the server, which has not switched on language support beyond the default (US English). I would be glad to have your opinion on this. Thanks in advance for your help.
