Are you doing an RPM type install or installing from Source?

Both installs are relatively easy. You can find an over view of them on
lists.org website and in the Mailman FAQ.

Also, if you download and expand the source you will find a file called
INSTALL which covers very completely the installation of Mailman via
Source.  

There are also some README.<mailer versions> that have specific notes
about the support for various smtp applications like Sendmail.

By default Mailman is setup to work with Sendmail, so in most cases it
works straight out of the box - though you will have to tell Mailman
your domain names.  This is covered in the INSTALL document.
