Sounds like a serious sinkhole for developer time to me.  Every time
I've had a beta package (not Mailman) taken up on one of the
distributions I've had to deal with way too many n00b questions and
"when is this feature going to be done?" or "why isn't this feature
from stable in the beta?" to make the additional testing worthwhile.
